Space
As Tom and Nancy planned their wedding, they also
made plans to update the dark, L-shaped tunnel that
was Tom’s kitchen. The space needed to accommodate
visits from the couple’s growing extended family
as well as create a professional-looking entrance
for Tom’s thriving business.
Through the business entrance to Tom’s home, one passed a pretty stone fireplace in an odd little foyer the couple dubbed “the silly room”. It was quaint, but there was no clear way to use the space. To the right, the dark, narrow kitchen provided access to the living quarters and was easily overlooked. Straight ahead a bright, airy family room, a recent addition to the home, came into view. The home office was to the left.
The kitchen was narrow and uninspired with a baseboard heater consuming the length of one wall. The décor was decidedly outdated; the layout was inefficient and offered minimal organization.
Clearly, the existing space wouldn’t meet their needs.
